I asked CM to comment on the base issue during my last round of emails with them, but they were silent. they may not have decided for certain yet. I did see a picture from either SDCC 2007 or NY Toyfair 2008 with the Don displayed next to one of the CM-style nameplates on a stand. I'll see if I can find the picture later. This could be a good compromise. but as I have said before, why go to the trouble of creating a very identifiable brand image with the bases, only to then throw it out of the window with probably the best piece to date? Absolutely! It's not like the statue design would hinder them to use a regular base. That and the piece would be much more instable on it's display spot.
I emailed CM to ask again. I also asked who they have in mind for signing the COA. Fingers crossed for a reply.
Lars wrote 27 minutes earlier » This is interesting: What do we make of that? That for some nonsensical reason CM are going sans base. This is the second time I have seen this setup. They used it at one of the cons. Lars, where did you find this image?
I'm not sure, it was in my portfolio of photos on my harddisk, no idea where I got it from and when... But I didn't remember to have seen a setup with a separate nameplate like this.
Lars - I checked. This photo seems to come from CM's own website. If you click the main photo on the page for the Don, the image expands to show the nameplate. Though I can't remember it being like this before. Maybe I just hadn't clicked the main photo before assuming it would just blow up the same image that was embedded in the page. This is disappointing. It isn't even a cost cutting trend due to them going with a base for Bruce Lee.
The Godfather emerged on FPI's site for pre-order at £1499 !!! Did you guys knew he was gonna be more expensive than the other CM's? And they have apparently another Aragorn at £499!
Yes that's right Phil £1499, though FPI say this may drop. There is also a 25% pre-order deposit on this piece.
The deposit is understandable, CM's estimation for a Release Date in February not so much. I'll sit this out.
I am going for one. I have my name down. I don't know what pepople are making of the price (I really can't be doing with any of the bitching and complaining on SF anymore) - but gone are the days when you could get two Dollars for a Pound. These pieces must be costing FPI significantly more than they were.
Yes they surely learned their lesson. Some people (me included) ordered the Predator under 900 Pound discounted for rebates etc. which is dirt cheap with a piece of this calibre. 1499 Pound for the GF is playing it safe, there's a fair chance that it will undergo another price adjustment before it ships out. The pound is kinda undervalued, at least to the Dollar.

The pound is kinda undervalued, at least to the Dollar. And the final price won't affect the deposit. If the price comes down, the balance to pay will be lower. Personally I feel it will come down. Play had Jack and Indy listed at full retail (£1499 each) until they took delivery. Once they had them in stock, the discount was applied and they sold them at the same price as FPI.

Just looked the Hot Toys one up. The portrait I have seen makes Brando look quite young. It's nice, but I like to be able to see my statues without the aid of a microscope.
Well I have ordered this piece. So the waiting begins. Somehow, I just don't think it will generate the hype that the Predator did. Will anything CM ever does generate that sort of hype again?
jet_force_juno wrote 3 minutes earlier » Somehow, I just don't think it will generate the hype that the Predator did. Not only will it not create that kind of hype, but, beyond, the Predator will stand there as the one and only example to justify CM prices for many. I'm in for both the Godfather and Lee but a mid-year release is simply too early for me. That and I can't deny that the new price range + deposit is a bit of a shock to me.

Indeed, the Predator does stand out as being the one piece people could justify spending $2000 on. It is that good. Sadly, those same people are also spending bucketloads on other companies products. My personal opinion is that collectors of movie related statues tend to be in the minority compared to those who colelct comic related stuff. And a lot of comic related stuff is constantly being released to compete for the cash in the collector's wallet. I think a lot of people made a special exception to pick the CM Pred up - people who wouldn't normally go anywhere near a CM.
