So, is the absence of translucency on the wings a deal breaker?

Not really but for the price they are charging it would have been a nice feature.

There is something about that translucent resin that makes it hard to work with.
Apparently the major issue is the quality of the casting and the reason why SS ultimately ditched the intrensic resin on the Obi Wan Lsf.
The wings on the Deathwing are translucent though but they have problems with it and this is why it takes them like forever to release the dragon.

I wonder how were they able to pull it off in the Blade vs Dracula Diorama with no issues...Dracula's wings were definitely translucent, and now they are having all sorts of headaches with translucency...

Not really , there is actually nothing special about translucent resin!
But the most difficult thing is the painting , it also has to be painted with translucent paint and you need a real paint artist to do that .
Here's a video of how they use translucent resin

Yep,besides the casting problems there is also the difficulty of the painting.

Okay thanks for the video - but that desk looks solid - is it possible to ask make a see through set of wings?
Also I've never quite understood the need for the bandages when making the molds but that's an aside.

I'm not sure if I understand the question Steve, are you asking if it's possible to make a set of see through wings ?

In the video he used bandages because he ran out of the other stuff to make a shell around the silicone mold , the bandages are just to reinforce the structure ;)

Yeah by translucent I mean see through - wouldn't you need to use clear resin for that?

It also depends on the amount of color you add to the clear resin I just recently got the new sculpt from Andy bergholtz and is translucent resin yet when I got it it is pretty opaque so we will see what happens ,
    [IMG]
And yes the plaster bandages are to support the flimsy silicone mold ,

It looks like too much colorpigment was added to the clear resin.....

Exactly so the translucency will not be as apparent . You can only see it more on the tips of the finger nails ,
